31/07/2010

Training is progressing well, moving up to some more back to back runs of 40-60 klms. I am trying to spend more time on the mountain bike to lessen the chance of injury. The reality of running solo from one side of Tasmania to the other is really starting to set in. All sorts of things go through your mind - I hope I dont get sick/injured just before the event, have I prepared properly mentally and physically, will the weather be ok, have I got the preparation right. So many things go through your mind. But the excitement of what I am about to do is unreal!

Some people have told me that I am crazy and that the probability of failure is high. Maybe they are right, but then again maybe they are wrong.

Anyway I have some training to do

Solo Run North To South Tasmania 2010

On the 02nd of November 2010 I will be running solo from the north coast (township of Penguin) of Tasmania and finishing on the south coast (Cockle Creek). I will be utilizing walking trails where possible, some roads cannot be avoided but these will be kept to a minimum. The distance is approximately 450 kilometres and I will be running on some iconic walking tracks such as the Overland Track, the Port Davey and Sout Coast Tracks. I aim to complete the run in 6-8 days but this will be dependant on weather conditions. My journey has numerous river and creek crossings and heavy rain will prevent crossings. Obviously any extreme of weather has the potential to not only slow my trip down but may end it. I will be utilising food drops at several points.

I am raising money for the Black Dog Institute, you can donate by going to my EveryDay Hero page - http://www.everydayhero.com.au/gary burgess
